hi,

with 8 bits image acquisition on the dmk31 i have 0.55 adu rms noise at gain min and a conversion factor of ~59 e-/adu.
at the maximal gain (conversion factor of ~1.4 e-/adu) i have ~7.7 adu rms noise.

it seems slightly more noisy but i have to determine the real contribution of the ron .

hi there,

with 8 bits image acquisition on the chameleon i have 0.38 adu rms noise at 0 dB and a conversion factor of ~26 e-/adu.
at the maximal 24 dB gain (conversion factor of ~1.5 e-/adu) i have ~5.5 adu rms noise.

i send you a median from a stack of dark images at 24 dB and lowest exposure time.

(I use google to translate what I write here, the result is sometimes curious...)

I'll try to post a dark in the coming days.

weather of recent weeks does not allow me to get good quality images of Mars or Jupiter.

I plan to make a web page with the comparison of my two cameras in 8-bit mode.

Hi greyscale,

many thanks for your comment. I'm highly interested in the Chameleon and am only waiting for the announced direct european sales channel to be established. Do you have any images taken with the Chameleon you might want to show? I'm a little surprised that the ICX445 is quite noisy. Ok, very small pixels...
I heard similar comments about the supplied software.

Clear skies!
Oliver

holding a 31 dmk, I recently purchased a point grey chameleon.
for a little over 400 euro customs charges included, it offers a icx445 digitized on 12 bits and usb2. the sensor itself is quite noisy but its value lies in its extended sensitivity in the infrared.
only the demonstration application supplied me regret ic capture : I have to save my images in PGM format and then convert it to fits. also the stability of this application is not perfect (I use it on your notebook PC with vista).
